術後合併症のリスクを加味しても、より低い眼圧を目指したい症例ではバルベルト®(ノンバルブ型)を選択する。術直後から眼圧を下げたい症例や、低眼圧が危険な症例(無水晶体眼、ぶどう膜炎続発緑内障など)ではアーメド®(バルブ型)を選択する。メタ解析ではバルベルト®の術後平均眼圧(13.2 mmHg)がアーメド®(15.8 mmHg)より有意に低い15)が、低眼圧発生率はバルベルト®が高い(4.5% vs 0.4%)12)。
