CXLによる角膜強化作用と紫外線照射の殺菌活性を活かし、実質融解を伴う角膜炎の管理に応用されている。Photoactivated chromophore for keratitis-corneal cross-linking(PACK-CXL)と呼ばれる。メタ解析では、補助的CXLが標準的な抗微生物療法単独と比較して感染性角膜炎の治癒を促進することが示されている。ただし、結果の一貫性はまだ確立されておらず、現在は標準的抗微生物療法に抵抗性の症例でのみ検討されている。
