Background and Philosophy

AI has become a place where many people turn for answers. That can be useful, but medical information has real stakes. Lumic was created with the following concerns in mind.

• AI answers are sometimes wrong, even when they sound confident.
• Not everyone can use costly high-performance models, so an invisible information gap can grow.
• Asking the same basic questions to AI again and again around the world also consumes electricity.

Lumic is an attempt to collect common, useful ophthalmology knowledge once and keep it open. AI may help with the work, but a human remains responsible for checking accuracy, balance, and tone.

• Very lightweight by design, so the site remains comfortable on slow connections and older devices.
• Cloudflare delivers the site quickly from many locations around the world.

• Text on this site may be used freely, without prior permission, in any format.
